RE: Ponchos & Polar Fleece

This issue of “ponchos” came up with the question of whether a boy would find a poncho acceptable…

It seems it would be acceptable if it could be made "a fashion statement"...

Polar Fleece would be a better material than "sweatshirt material".

Polar Fleece material comes in *many* colors and prints. A younger boy might like puppy dogs or snowmen, but there are also all sorts of mature sports & outdoor themes--even camouflage, plus Polar Bears! (A favorite of Richard's.)

Polar Fleece comes in 100, 200 & 300 "weight"(?).
"100" is great for PJs on cool nights.
"300" is for polar bear hunting... J *Very* warm.

Polar Fleece is waterproof (especially 200+), and yet it "breathes" so the boy should not sweat underneath.

"100" Polar Fleece runs about $12-16/yard. That's at a 64" width (I believe). Not sure of 200+ price. One yard with a slit cut in the middle would be a quick-and-dirty $12 poncho. The stores often have 50% Off sales, too.

Polar Fleece does not ravel, so you can cut-to-fit *with no sewing*.

Add a few "snaps" to hold it together under and along the arms...

Maybe even sew together some warm "booties" (mukluks) for around the house...

Do-able? Useable? Ready to work on a pattern?
